The special feature of training in IT at the LZPD NRW is the cooperation with several departments. This allows trainees to familiarize themselves with the processes at LZPD NRW as a whole and gain a broad range of knowledge and experience.
Diagnosis, maintenance and servicing
Motor vehicle mechatronics technicians specializing in passenger car technology are mainly involved in the maintenance and repair of vehicles intended for the transportation of a maximum of nine people. They check the vehicle's technical systems, carry out inspections and service work and equip the vehicles with additional equipment, special equipment and accessories. Retrofitting vehicle systems and reading out faults in modern cars is also an important part of the work of automotive mechatronics technicians.
The LZPD NRW trains automotive mechatronics technicians in the workshops of the Bochum, Brühl, Linnich, Selm and Wuppertal branches. The NRW police service vehicles are serviced, maintained and repaired here. Not only patrol cars, but also special vehicles such as water cannons, towing vehicles and snow clearing vehicles come to the pit here.
IT systems electronics technicians plan, install and configure information technology (IT) systems, components and networks. To do this, they procure, adapt and install hardware and software. They then connect IT devices and systems to the power supply, check electrical safety, configure the devices and systems and put them into operation. They provide information and advice on the possible uses of information and communication technology devices such as computers, telephone systems, printers and scanners, as well as on network infrastructures and topics such as IT security and data protection. They also maintain the communication infrastructure and analyze and rectify any faults that occur.
IT specialists specializing in application development develop and program software for their own company/authority. For example, they expand in-house programs or develop new solutions that are tailored to their own operational needs. They install software applications, put them into operation and, if necessary, instruct users on how to use them. Regular updates and maintenance, IT support and, if necessary, consulting services, e.g. on IT security issues, can also be part of their area of responsibility.
In the LZPD NRW, application development mainly involves adapting IT procedures to the specific needs of the NRW police, developing new ones and maintaining existing procedures.
IT specialists specializing in system integration plan, install, operate and manage IT systems. As in-house service providers, they advise on the selection and use of hardware and software components, set up systems, network them into complex systems and put them into operation. They create system documentation and, if necessary, provide training for users. During operation, they regularly maintain and service the systems and adapt them to changing requirements. In the event of malfunctions, they narrow down the causes, e.g. with the help of expert and diagnostic systems, and rectify the malfunctions.
Informatics specialists specializing in system integration implement customer-specific information and communication solutions. To do this, they network hardware and software components to create complex systems.
In the LZPD NRW, the IT procedures are made available to the police authorities in NRW in the area of system integration, and fault reports are accepted and processed.
