Our fleet management looks after more than 10,000 state vehicles, the weapons technology department looks after around 40,000 weapons and the police clothing center issues around 100,000 uniform items to police officers in NRW every year.
All new command and operational equipment is technically tested in advance in our laboratories. We pay particular attention to protective equipment, weapons and ammunition. Throughout the entire procurement and usage process, we ensure that the planned equipment meets the requirements, technical specifications and high quality standards. This begins before the purchase and does not end afterwards.
Different purposes place different demands on the vehicles in the police fleet. Our engineers in the equipment laboratory for vehicle technology take care of this challenge.
The LZPD NRW maintains the only police-owned high-frequency/EMC test laboratory in Germany - a test laboratory for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), among other things. The functionality of all electrical devices in an electromagnetic system is a key factor for the police. Our vehicles, radios and equipment must function at all times. They must not have a negative impact on each other and health risks from excessive electromagnetic fields at the police officers' workplace must be avoided.
The technical devices used for various purposes to ensure communication must also be of high acoustic quality. Corresponding tests are carried out in the acoustics laboratory. In addition, tasks relating to quality assurance, product improvement, product comparisons and occupational health and safety must also be carried out in this area.
