Today, the new workshop hall was officially opened together with the Ministry of the Interior (IM NRW) and the landlord's architect. Peter Möller (the landlord's architect) handed over the symbolic key to the Director of the LZPD NRW, Thomas Roosen.
From now on, police patrol cars and police motorcycles will be serviced and repaired in the centrally located, ultra-modern workshop hall. The employees of the LZPD NRW in Cologne process around 4,200 workshop orders every year. These include regular maintenance, inspections and engine and gearbox repairs. "The work of our colleagues in our workshops is essential for police operations," emphasized Thomas Roosen at the inauguration of the new building. "We have now created the conditions in Cologne to keep the NRW police vehicle fleet, especially the vehicles of the Cologne police headquarters, in good condition and ready for action in a professional, fast and uncomplicated manner in the future."
Head Ministerial Councillor Professor Klaus Schönenbroicher from the NRW Ministry of the Interior also congratulated Thomas Roosen on the functional and pioneering workshop building in every respect.
Peter Möller was delighted to be able to hand over the symbolic key for the new police building: "With the new workshop hall in Cologne, we are now providing the police with sufficient space that they need for their work on the vehicles of the NRW police," said Möller. The rented building required extensive work in the areas of electronics and sanitation. Almost all of the electrical sub-distribution boards, the roller shutters and the sanitary facilities with changing rooms were replaced. A barrier-free toilet was also added.
There are various halls that are necessary for a vehicle workshop. One hall each for the repair and maintenance of bikes and cars. There are also separate halls for main vehicle inspections, tire disposal, tire storage and waste oil disposal. The new building has modern equipment, including special exhaust systems with above-ground and underfloor technology. The halls are all equipped in such a way that repair work can be carried out ergonomically for the employees while standing under or next to a vehicle. The building area of the vehicle workshop is around 1,700 square meters. There is also an outdoor area of around 2,300 square meters. Around 150 square meters are available for social and training rooms. "For cars, we have two brake testers in the workshop area," said Michael Mell, representative of the branch management. The vehicle workshop also has a spare parts warehouse for repair parts.
The vehicle workshop is part of the Brühl branch. In addition to Brühl, the LZPD NRW, headquartered in Duisburg, also has branches in Bochum, Cologne, Linnich, Selm and Wuppertal. The Cologne site employs 14 people who are responsible for repairing and maintaining the vehicles of the NRW police. It is also possible to train as a vehicle mechatronics technician in the vehicle workshop.
The branches provide repair services and support work for the police authorities in the areas of vehicle technology, information and communication technology and weapons technology. The colleagues also provide operational support for special occasions with service in the operational area.
